.2008 / 2009 Contest Beer Styles |

Each month at our membership meeting the Forest City Brewers host a homebrew contest, with a different featured style chosen for each month. The contest is judged during a blind sampling taste test by those in attendance, and points and prizes are awarded to the winners. The monthly points are compiled and used to determine the ultra prestigious Forest City Brewer's "Homebrewer of the Year Award". 2008 - 2009 Selected Styles May - Witbier June thru August - NO STYLE Open category only September - California Common Beer (aka Steam Beer) October - Oktoberfest November - ESB (Extra Special Bitter) December - Winter Warmer or Christmas Beer January - Pale Ale Yeast Experiment (see below for details)* * We are going to try something a little different for the January 2009 style competition. We will all be making the same beer using a pale ale kit. The interesting part will be that each contestant can pick any type of yeast that they choose. The yeast will be the only differing factor in each recipe. The pale ale kits will be available from Brew & Grow in November. Brew & Grow will need about 2 weeks notice to order any Wyeast strain that they don't normally carry. If you choose a White Labs strain, they will need even longer because the order only goes in once a month. Points are awarded for as follows: Amendment: Point judging totals start at Jan. 1st
and end the following year.
