Vice President’s Notes:

The littlest brewmaster cometh!!

On November 21st my son was born at Rockford Memorial Hospital at 8:50PM. He was 7 lbs 7 oz., and 19th inches. We named him Benjamin Mitchell Cooper. Mom and baby did very well and we came home on Thanksgiving Day. I will likely try to post some pictures soon, but if I don’t, I’ll make sure to bring some to the next meeting.

In other news, I would like to thank everyone for choosing me for the FCB President for 2006. I think the club will undergo some changes for the better. The time is now to eliminate BEERocracy, and form a true BEERpartisan union. We will work together to promote WORT peace.

Remember, there is no “I” in “BEER”.

(Unless you try spelling it in the “I’m so cool” uber-German way. )

Meeting Notes:

The Novembeer meeting was held on Novembeer 16th at Shooter’s. After social time, meeting was called to order for a little club business. The Taster’s Guild was cancelled for December in favor of the FCB Christmas Party. Next up we discussed our election of the 2006 FCB officers. There was a motion made and passed to approve the list of nominees without ballot voting since there were no contested elections. So, for 2006 the officers will be:

Ryan Cooper – President

Eric Stromberg – Vice President

Dave Denale – Events Director

Steve Hall – Treasurer

Monthly Contest Beer Steward duties will be taken over for 2006 by Chuck Nolen

There was some discussion of modifying our contest styles for 2006, with the month of January being changed to a recipe in honor of the 300th birthday of Benjamin Franklin. There was also a motion made to incorporate the AHA contest styles into our spring calendar, and the motion was passed. The spring contest calendar will be amended shortly.

Then we gave the floor to Lynn Foster for an educational and informative presentation about yeast. Information presented was both technical, and practical, and was well organized. Setting the bar quite high for future presenters. Great job Lynn! Next month we will have a presentation from Steve Hall. Remember, you could be next. So what tip, trick, or secret could you share with your fellow brewers?

Following Lynn’s presentation, we took a moment to honor and recognize one of the FCB’s longtime citizens, Roger Hosfeld. The FCB presented Roger a beautiful engraved stein, and Roger gave a short speech. Cheers to Roger for his contributions to the FCB and to the Rockford homebrewing community!

Lastly, we sampled a wonderful Belgian Ale (forgot the name!) as a calibration beer for our contest. Thanks top Steve Hall for bringing such a wonderful treat! Then we sampled and judged the following contest entrants:

Open Contest:                                                             Style Contest:

1.     Chuck Nolen – Brown ale                             1. Ryan Cooper

2. Pat Cunningham – American Pale Ale     2. Ken Schultz

3. Ryan Cooper  – Amber Rye Ale

Honorable Mention

Charlie Mongan  - ESB

Allan Novak - IPA

Our Featured Beer Style for Decembeer will be Spiced Ales
