NOTE FROM PRESIDENT (PRO TEM)
Thanks to everyone who helped with the Burpee program! Of course Ken Schulz deserves special praise. He did a great job of organizing the event and making a terrific summary presentation. The program drew 20 interested potential brewers. Through the generosity of Ken, Lynn Foster, Alan Novak, Steve Robinson & Anita,
David Burdick, and Pat Cunningham we had enough beer and braggot to satisfy everyone's thirst. (If I forgot to thank anyone who donated beer, please forgive me.)
Our next meeting is this Wed (17 Oct 2001). Please bring your Oktoberfest for the Style Competition and whatever for the open. Also, please be thinking about the people that you want to lead FCB for the next year. We will be asking you to nominate a slate of candidates.
Our next event will be the annual FCB Oktoberfest (Saturday - 20 Oct 2001). It promises to be another memorable event. Lynn & Barb Foster have offered to hold this year's party at their home (3855 Hermitage Trail). In addition to our normal 'dish-to-pass', Lynn will provide an old fashioned "Fish boil." This event will begin at noon and run till 6pm. Please set your Palm Pilots or other organizers to insure that you and your family will be able to join us. And, set aside some of your homebrew or special favorite to share with your thirsty friends to help wash down great quantities of food.
See you on Wednesday.

SECRETARY'S NOTES FROM LAST MEETING
I've decided to try a new category in the newsletter this year. I'm actually going to try to take notes on the important information conveyed at each meeting and share it with those who were not fortunate enough to attend. Hopefully, people will communicate the critical information early in the meeting, when my note-taking skills are less suspect.
At the September meeting, we discussed changing the location of our Wednesday meeting from LT's to Old Chicago. Josh, a manager at OC, came to give us a convincing presentation on switching over. We'll plan to discuss this at the meeting Wednesday.
Mike and Mary Kay Teefey gave a short talk on their plans to open a homebrew store here in Rockford. They also joined the club-welcome! They were looking for input from us-what we wanted to see carried (Liquid yeast! Bulk honey!) They plan to be open regular business hours (they are guessing 10-7) and maybe offering "brewing classes" through Rock Valley. They are looking to open up in the spring of 2002. Sounds great to me!
We have a new website! You can get there by going to (well
your already here!). We can post newsletters and messages at the site, etc. Thanks to Andy for all his hard work!
We are considering a pub crawl to Western Illinois and Iowa this fall. Ken Lonergan plans to work out some ideas and talk about them at the meeting this week.
Topics for this weeks meeting include Oktoberfest, next months meeting (it happens to fall the Wednesday before Thanksgiving-do we want to move it up or back by a week?), new officers, etc. Come prepared with ideas, if you can!
