have been slow update last month and apologize. Had other

Andy
Style
for the Month
This month's beer
style is Irish Amber.
George Pappas has graciously agreed to take us all to school
on the nuances
of tasting this great style. Remember, who ever gives
the talk on a beer
style gets to pick out next month's victim.
Taster's
Guild Held at Irish Rose
The
monthly meeting of the newly formed, counter-culture Taster's
Guild
seemed to be enjoyed by all. Several members partook of
the Irish Rose's
fine cuisine while others simply showed up to drink (me).
A new prospective
member, Dave Clinite was there checking out the club so
everyone be sure to
look him up at the March meeting and say "howdy".
The next sanctimonious and
super-secret meeting of the mystery-shrouded Taster's Guild
will be the first
Wednesday of the month, that's April 3rd.
Oktoberfest
update
The brewing of the
club oktoberfest beer will be Saturday, March 23rd at Lynn
and Barb Foster's house, 3855 Hermitage, Rockford.
Here are the directions
to Lynn and Barb's house.
East Riverside to Applewood (accross from Merlin Muffler),
turn South on Applewood.
Go to stop sign--take first right after the stop sign
(Foxboro).
Take the next right (Fox Point) then the second left (Kildeer).
Kildeer dead ends at a stop sign (Hermitage) take a right and
they are the
last house on the right.
The brewing will begin at 9am sharp. All those wishing
to assist in the
traditional brewing of the Oktoberfest beer should bring
a dish to pass.
The beer will be drunk (as will we all) at this year's FCB
Oktoberfest. Stay
tuned for dates and locations.
Spring
Bus Trip May 18th
The
plans for a trip out to Dubuque and western Illinois didn't
offer much in
the way of destinations so we again turn our sights on the
brewpub-rich
Milwaukee/Chicago area.
The date is yet to be set but as of last month's meeting May
18th seemed the
most probable date.
Great
Taste of the Midwest August 10th
Jim
Didier is once again organizing a bus trip to the annual Great
Taste of
the Midwest in Madison. If you have never been to this
event clear your
calendar and make plans to attend. Admission is limited
so there is no
overcrowding and there is rarely a wait for any of the fine
brews being
offered by the Midwest's micro breweries.
Checks in the amount of $35 dollars should be made out to Jim
Didier and
turned in to him as soon as possible. This is a first
come-first serve
event. No check, no ticket.

NOTE
FROM PRESIDENT
Pat
Cunningham, President
GrHello
fellow FCBer's,
Mike and MaryKay Teefey have been very busy recruiting new
members at "All
The BrewHa." Last month we had three new people attend
their first meeting.
Welcome to Ryan Cooper, Bob Marsh and Jim Kappel. Ryan
made a big impression
by winning the open competition at his first meeting.
Watch out brewers, I
think the competition level just got "kicked up a
notch".
This month, Don Carlyle of Carlyle Brewing Company will be
speaking at our
meeting. Don is opening his new brewpub in downtown
Rockford. He is a
former brewer from McClintock Brewing in Beloit. Don
will give us some
insight into his new business and we can ask some questions,
like "When are
you going to open!!!"
Also, at this next meeting we will be distributing tickets for
our own "Taste
of the Stateline." It is very important that we
have good attendance for
this meeting. We need to get the tickets into the hands
of our members and
we need our members selling tickets to this event. Ken
Schultz will have
more details Wednesday. Our next meeting is only one
week before the event.
Please make every effort to attend.
We will be brewing our Octoberfest Style beer at Lynn Fosters
on Saturday,
March 23. This beer will be consumed at our annual
Octoberfest picnic later
this fall. As you may recall from the January newsletter, I
encouraged
members of the club to brew with other members, on occasion.
For the extract
brewers, this is an excellent opportunity to see a very nice
all-grain system
in use. It is also a good opportunity to see some
of our more "seasoned"
brewers in action.
Well, as you read this, I will be inspecting the brewpubs of
New Orleans. As
our club President, I feel that it is my responsibility to
ensure that
brewpubs across America, measures up to my minimum acceptance
criteria. Now,
if I could only milk this club president thing for a few free
beers. What
if I had FCB business cards? Hmm, maybe. What if I
brought Steve and Anita?
Steve could pass for Michael Jackson...that would get
some free beer. Hmm…
yeah, but it seems like I should be getting some kind of
continuing education
credit for this effort. How about a creative account to
make this trip tax
deductible. Yeah…note to self, Teefey's to recruit a
creative accountant.
And…uhh…err…ramble...much too… must sleep.
Pat Cunningham, President
Forest City Brewers
Please
remember that our 2002 membership fees are now due!
Greetings,
I was asked by Pat to talk to you about the up coming Taste of
the Stateline.
For this event to be successful, we need the
help and cooperation of all club
members. At this Wednesday's meeting, I will have
tickets for you. We need
you to sell tickets to those people that you know who would
enjoy this type
of venue. So we need you to attend this meeting.
Just as last year, they
will be $20 each. With that, each patron will receive a
tasting glass, and a
variety of beer. Snack foods will also be included in
the price. The
location is the same as last year. It will be held at
DiGiovanni's
Restaurant in Roscoe at 4866 Bluestem Rd. off of Hononegah
near Hwy 251.
I have been in contact with many of the local breweries and
brew pubs. This
year I have been pushing more pubs than last year in hopes of
broadening the
representation. It is a hard sell due to the fact that
they don't see
Rockford as a market for them. However, we will have
beer samples from
America's Brew Pub also known as Walter Payton's place.
Our friend Mike
Rybinski has offered his product for us. Also coming
back this year is New
Glarus. It is still early and I hope to get many more
confirmations in the
coming weeks. Just some of the many pubs I have
contacted are, Mickey
Finn's, Melrose, Glen Ellyn, Prairie Rock, Two Brothers,
Flossmoor Station,
Three Floyd's, and the list goes on.
I want to offer a special thanks to these people for helping
me put this all
together. John Sears for designing and printing the
tickets, Rich and
Maryanne Theryl for supplying ice, and Rick Woods for getting
the glasses
that will be used. Also, a very special thanks to Mike
and Mary Kay Teefey
for their help with advertising and selling tickets at
"All the Brew Ha".
The venue be at DiGiovanni's in Rockton. We will have a
bigger room.
We just broke even last year so with a little extra effort by
the members
this year we should really be able to raise some serious
funds.
All-the-BrewHa, Rockford's only Homebrew Shop, has graciously
agreed to help
us sell tickets too.
